Beyond a birth story

Six months after receiving news she was pregnant and just 28 weeks into her pregnancy, Courtney Johnson began experiencing early labour and unexpected critical medical complications. On Nov. 30, 2012 she gave birth to two tiny baby boys during an emergency caesarean section at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), after which Johnson and her newborn sons, Jaxson and Jacob, all began fighting for their lives. This is their story.

Helping kids with cancer transition back to school

At a glance, 10-year-old Sarah Berger looks just like her fifth grade classmates. Like many of them, she loves going to school and spending time doing outdoor activities. And unless she mentions it, one would never guess that Berger missed her entire fourth grade year while she battled leukemia. With the help of LHSC's school liaison program, her teacher and the kindness and compassion of her classmates, Berger has transitioned back into the classroom with ease.

Training the nation for robotic surgery

In January, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) was designated as Canada’s national training centre for robotic surgery; making LHSC the only official surgical robotics training centre in Canada.

Hearing restored

From tragedy to discovery: the Walkerton Health Study

The Walkerton water disaster in 2000 took seven lives, made thousands ill, and brought a tightly-knit Ontario community to unwelcomed global prominence. Today more than a decade later, the consequences of one of the worst E. coli outbreaks in history are still being felt. But through the work of a team of dedicated researchers from Lawson Health Research Institute, tragedy is leading to discovery though the landmark Walkerton Health Study.
