From the CEO

Summer 2013

As both a local community hospital and a referral centre for the most medically complex and critically ill patients in the region, LHSC provides the broadest range of acute care services in the province. That is a responsibility that we take very seriously and we are proud of the role we play helping the patients we serve in their time of need.

Our regional role involves collaboration with many partners in the health system and, together, we are constantly looking at how to deliver care across the health continuum in more effective ways that improve the patient experience. Some of the stories in this edition of inside help illustrate our regional role, including that of our cancer program’s nurse navigator, who helps ensure that patients from all areas of southwestern Ontario make the trip to London only when tests and treatments cannot be performed in their local communities.

Given the scope of our regional role and the volume of patients we serve, it’s no surprise that LHSC has some of the most sophisticated and expansive facilities in existence today. Few people stop to think about what it takes to keep a major hospital like LHSC operating safely around the clock, every single day of the year. In this edition, we provide insights into the incredible infrastructure in place at the hospital and how we keep it running as cleanly and efficiently as possible to support safe patient care.

From Windsor to Owen Sound and beyond, we are here to help when you need us most.

I hope you enjoy your time “inside”.
