From the CEO

Fall 2012

It only takes a quick scan of the daily headlines to know that quality health care remains a hot topic for Ontarians. For us at London Health Sciences Centre, finding new ways to connect with the communities we serve on these top-of-mind matters remains an important priority. This publication is one of the ways in which we hope to take part in the conversation.

We want to bring you “inside” our hospital; to allow you to get a better sense of the experiences we have, including some of the tough challenges we face each and every day. We also want to highlight some of the behind-the-scenes areas and people in our hospital that play a key role in helping us provide quality care and drive innovation.

In this second edition, we explore an issue that is facing hospitals across Canada: hospital-acquired infections and the war on bacteria. We get a lot of questions from patients and families about infection control and we all see stories in the media raising concerns about ‘superbugs.’ So, to help explain this complicated issue, we interviewed an infection control expert from the Public Health Agency of Canada. We also feature the pivotal role of our very busy switchboard, help you prepare for your next hospital stay and take you through the personal journeys of three inspiring patients.

I hope you enjoy your time “inside.”
